Something big is smouldering here: Jan Vogler, one of Germany's finest Cellists, is preparing the launch of the "Fürstenberg Classics". With the help of the royal Fürstenberg-family, the festival will present chamber orchestras from all over the world, performing in the impressive historical settings of the castles of Donaueschingen. Each year, a different country will serve as a focal point, with "Great Britain" leading the way - the Scottish Chamber Orchestra under Thierry Fischer will play works by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Shostakovich, Widmann, Vaughan-Williams, Vivaldi, Brahms, Elgar and Bach. Together with PR2 Classic (Voglers personal representation) and marketing agency "Gruppe Drei", the aim is to establish a festival comparable to Salzburg and Bayreuth. With this excellent staff, things definitely look promising.

Addition, February 2007: This festival has long been suspended. The good news, however, is that Jan Vogler is still curating the Moritzburg Festival. Check it out over at: http://www.moritzburgfestival.de/pages_engl/frames_engl.html
