Taylor Deupree: Sea Last lasts only 238 copies
Tobias“Because all of the original photographs will be dispersed throughout the world, this book also serves as a document of the complete project”, Taylor Deupree further explained the ideas behind “Sea Last”, “The images are presented chronologically, in the order in which they were taken, between April 24 and 28, 2008.” He also stressed the spontaneous nature of the underlying imagery, despite the work gone into the project: “For the photography, I wanted to use a low-quality camera, in this case a plastic Holga with a Polaroid back, whose idiosyncrasies and “faults” add an element of randomness and decay to the imagery, mimicking the erosion of time and memory. Additionally, the scanning of the photographs brought out flaws on the surface, such as dust and streaked chemical developer, which I made a point of not completely removing, so that the process of digitizing added an additional layer of imperfection and unpredictability. Of the roughly 300 sheets of film I shot, there were 238 images that I deemed usable.”
“Sea Last” can be preordered from the 12k website for $150, including postage and packaging starting September 2nd.
