Richard Pinhas & Merzbow: 'Keio Line' Collaboration Live and on CD
TobiasUnder the banner of „The Godfather of Noise (Merzbow) meets the Guitar Philosopher (Richard Pinhas)“, the duo is set to appear at the Stadtgarten Köln (Cologne) on Tuesday, 11th November as well as in Paris' „Les Instants Chavirés“ just a day later. On both occasions, Pinhas and Merzbow will be accompanied by a special guest – Cult act „Das Synthetische Mischgewebe“ (who have just released a 10inch Vinyl disc on German label Auf Abwegen) in Cologne as well as DJ K.OZ in Paris. The concerts are further proof of a true mutual interest in their respective approaches and may point to further collaborational releases in the future.
Both „Keio Line“ and the European concerts are the immediate result of their first encounter: During his tour in 2007, Richard Pinhas was blown away by the immediacy of his gig with Merzbow, booking a studio session with him right away. Just a week later, they were recording for two entire days, composing and improvising in the studio, adding an extensive phase of remixing, editing and rearranging to turn „Keio Line“ (the title of the album is a reference to the train which would take them to the studio) into probably the most polished full length Merzbow may ever have been involved in.
„Keio Line“ follows in the wake of „Metatron“, widely regarded as Pinhas' finest release to date.
