Patricia Petitbon: 'Amoureuses' a sensitive menage a trois

Daniel Harding gladly returned the favour when commenting about the recording process which led to „Amoureuses“: „The basic thing is that she's a phenomenal musician, an incredibly sensitive, instinctive musician with a beautiful, beautiful voice. And without that and without the wonderful musicality, nothing else brings you anything“, Harding said about Patricia Petitbon, „She's someone who makes you listen to things in a new way. But  at the same time, you never have the feeling that this individuality or personality is a replacement for quality.“ The latter was essential for „Amoureuses“, as Petitbon aimed at maintaining the theatrical and dramaturgical aspects of these arias, even outside their original operatic context – and with regards to the repertoire of the album, which certainly relies on the more traditional and popular favourites of the genre.

Combining these dual ambitions is as natural to Patricia Petibone as singing itself. During the 1990s, she worked intensively with William Christie and Baroque ensemble Les Art Florissants, building her opera career from smaller and more intimate settings and with colourful, eclectic programs. This now comes as advantage when preparing for different roles – and for recognising the outwardly hidden parallels between them. „Amoureuses shows personalities, which may possibly merely constitute different facets of the same woman“, Petitbon remarked upon her choice of characters.

Patricia Petbon, Daniel Harding and Concerto Köln will perform at Cologne's WDR Sendesaal on December 21st in support of „Amoureuses“.
