Ingrid Fliter: Complete Chopin Waltzes a "Kaleidoscope of Life"
TobiasIngrid Fliter relates the story of how her parents met; her mother noticed her father while he was playing Chopin waltzes at a party. She says if not for Chopin, she'd not have been born. Chopin's music, performed by Arthur Rubinstein, was played in her home as a child, and she grew to love Chopin.
Ingrid Fliter appreciates the romance and classical expression of Chopin's works, but she says he had a darker side—a sense of the tragic. The Times noted that there is a rich sweetness to her performance, along with "plenty of fibre and muscle as well." Born in 1973 in Buenos Aires, Ingrid Fliter performed publicly at age 11; she debuted at the Teatro Colón when she was 16. She studied in Germany and Italy and was awarded prizes at the Ferruccio Busoni Competition in Italy, the Cantu International Competition, and the Frederic Chopin Competition in Warsaw.
Ingrid Fliter won the 2006 Gilmore Artist Award, granted to an exceptional pianist with profound musicianship and charisma. She performs in both North and South America, along with Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. For the last two years she has played with orchestras at the UK's prominent festivals, including the City of London Festival and the BBC Proms. Her CD of Chopin waltzes was produced in collaboration with BBC Radio 3's New Generation Artists scheme. The "Washington Post" wrote that Ingrid Fliter "made the music sound as though it were being born under her fingers."
