Denis Matsuev: The Carnegie Hall Concert a Romantic Feast

img  Tobias
“The Carnegie Hall Concert” is the follow-up to “Unknown Rachmanoff”, a collection of works which could be characterised as seldomy played, newly discovered and sadly forgotten. The way Denis Matsuev approached these compositions as though they were eternal classics earned him ecstatic outcries by Gramophone magazine and an “Album of the Week” award in the Independent – among others.

For his latest album, Denis Matsuev, who won the 1998 Tchaikovsky competition and has been likened to almost all important Russian Pianists of the late 20th century, has returned to the “mainstream” canon, but his undaunting delivery virtually assures “The Carnegie Hall Concert” of sounding like all shiny and new.
