David Fray: The Agent provocateur of the Piano returns
TobiasOn this album, David Fray not only excels as a solist but also as a musical director. As can be witnessed on a short video capturing scenes from the recording sessions, Fray has worked on a fluent, weightless and sensual interpretations, in which the small-scale ensemble speaks like a single voice and with melodies approximating vocal lines: “The main thing is to play with more definition and more articulation”, David Fray is heard instructing the Kammerphilharmonie”, simultaneously asking the bass section to “help the others to be lyrical”. In the exerpts made available on the site of EMI Records, the album really does capture a remarkably seamless interplay between the instrumental groups and an airy and upbeat sound, full of affirmative power.
While the album will be made available to the public in early November, the shadow David Fray has cast with his Pianistic skills has already earned him his first documentary. „Swing, sing and think“ by director Bruno Monsaingeon will shed a little light on this poetically eccentric figure and be released on DVD in sync with the new studio album.
