Arcadi Volodos: Pianist plays live in Vienna
TobiasWhen Volodos played in the spring of 2009 at the Musikverein in Vienna – recording the sessions which would eventually turn into „Live in Vienna“, he presented a program of contrasts, ranging from the resonance of Alexander Scriabin's works to the romantic "Waldszenen" and Liszt's "Dante Sonata." Volodos also presented the concert program in German cities including Berlin, Essen, Düsseldorf, and Stuttgart—to rave reviews. Arcadi Volodos will perform in early 2010 in Zürich, Luxemburg, and Seoul.
Thomas Frost, who produced Volodos' recordings for Sony Classical, said Volodos "has everything: imagination, colour, passion and a phenomenal technique to carry out his ideas." The first Volodos album, released in 1997, was accompanied by live appearances, and the combination caused a minor sensation. That CD won prizes including the Gramophone Editor's Choice and the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik. According to the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung," Volodos makes the piano "sound like all manner of things, but not like a piano." Which, at least in this context, must be seen as one of the highest compliments.
