Andris Nelsons: Debuts at the Royal Opera House
TobiasAnd there's more: Andris Nelsons’ second CD with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra follows his popular recording of Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony; that recording was granted the German Record Critics' Award in the summer of 2009. The second Nelsons CD, released in the UK by Orfeo in January 2010, features works of Richard Strauss – Ein Heldenleben and the Rosenkavalier Suite. The CD highlights his collaboration with and direction of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Nelsons will also conduct the Philharmonia Orchestra in early 2010, including concerts in London's Royal Festival Hall, Bedford, Cardiff, and Leicester. He performed with the Staatskapelle Berlin at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in 2008, and will appear with the Berlin orchestra in the spring, featuring a programme of Haydn and Richard Strauss. In April he is scheduled at the Semper Opera for a concert with the Staatskapelle Dresden, conducting the Evening Recital that will feature Schoenberg's Verklärte Nacht.
Nelsons and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra will also tour Germany in March, featuring solo performances by Latvian violinist Baiba Skride.
