Hi! How are you? Where are you?
Right now, I'm in Milano, playing concerts in Italy. (In Milano on the 2nd, just finished that one, at the Spoletto festival on the 15th, Novara at the 20th of May). I'm fine, thanks :)

Whats in your schedule right now?
As I mentioned, concerts. Also - moving from Rotterdam to Amsterdam, examn in Weimar (7th of june), moving out from Weimar (finished my studies), concert in Rotterdam (Liszt project) on 11.06, concert in Florence on the 12th of june. Marriage in this time somewhere, dont know exactly when.

If you hadn’t chosen for music, what do you think you would do right now?
If I hadn't choise for music.. can't imagine. I would play guitar anyway, as I grew up with rock music. Apart from that - dance. Modern dance. I guess, I would be dancer in rock group. Or artist - making pantings etc.. a designer.. who knows. Not a singer though, i don't have a voice, even though I would like to. I also wanted to be a doctor, but I am just not strong enough for that.

What or who was your biggest influence as an artist?

Biggest influence? Well.. i dont know.. the experience I draw from life. The more strong emotions I get, the more I need music to express them. A lot of stories, books, artists i guess, but I can't really write a list :)

What’s the hardest part about being a musician and what’s the best?

The hardest part of being musician - that music is your language, but you are lonely.. somehow. The best - it makes you happy.

What’s your view on the classical music scene at present? Is there a crisis?

My view on the classical music scene at present? Well, I dont really pay too much attention to stuff around music. On occasion I read something interesting, when the author basically said that artists make people feel love, not only "wow, he is cool!". Would be cool, if there could be a little bit more love in music.

Some feel there is no need to record classical music any more, that it’s all been done before. What do you tell them?
As long, as somebody thinks differently, there is a need.

What constitutes a good live performance in your opinion? What’s your approach to performing on stage?
If you mean by that: What is part of good life perfomance, then the answer is, I think, being real and spontanious.

What does the word “interpretation” mean to you?

Interpretation -  well.. A composer expresses his ideas and feelings through music. Simply put: I'm not him. I should express my own ideas and feelings, which are the most close to his, shouldn't I? If I dont have any, nobody would trust me.. But he gave me this beautiful way, the best way to express myself.

True or false: It is the duty of an artist to put his personal emotions into the music he plays.

I think, I answered that. I dont think, there is a way for an artist without to make people feel love without expressing his emotions.

True or false: “Music is my first love”
I think, music is a language for love and othere things, you could tell.

True or false: People need to be educated about classical music, before they can really appreciate it.

Probably, some way. I dont think, you could enjoy classical music right away, after listening to hip hop and without any education. You should be used to listen to that.. But I think, some people find classical music relaxing anyway.

You are given the position of artistic director of a concert hall. What would be on your program for this season?

Very difficult, I dont know.. If I'd be a director of a big hall, I can't make decisions only according to my taste. I woudl need to see, what people like there, what they need.

What’s your favourite classical CD at the moment?
My favourite CD at the moment? The Beatles.  I dont really listen to classical cd's..  I need some other music, otherwise it's too much..

Have you ever tried playing a different instrument? If yes, how good were you at it?

I played the organ, tried the violin and I want to play guitar. None of them really good, though.
